Welcoming Message from Secretary General

Dear prospective delegates and distinguished chairs, it is my utmost pleasure to invite you and welcome you in the name of the Secretariat and myself, the Secretary General, to the Rotaract Global Model United Nations conference in Istanbul.

The main objective of the RGMUN in Istanbul is to promote and encourage awareness, understanding, tolerance and acceptance of different people, cultures, beliefs and attitudes. Our missin is simple – we want to embrace diversity! Diversity to me is the ability for differences to coexist together with mutual understanding and acceptance present. In my opinion there is no better way or opportunity to embrace diversity and accept individual uniquness than through the work of the United Nations or in our case Model UN. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres claimed in 2017 that “diversity is a richness, not a threat” and we proudly want to use his words as a symbol of this conferences, but also a reminder that all of us together can bring chance to our world.

Aleksandar Ljubomirović

RGMUN Istanbul Secretary

Further, we strive to involve and teach our participants speaking, debating and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork and leadership abilities. By working together as a team and talking about burning global issues we want to prepare our participants for the future and empower them to be part of decision making processes at all levels and at any time.

Our team works tirelessly to perfect RGMUN 2019 in Istanbul and to prepare one of the best Model United Nations experiences for all of you! With the help of you there is no doubt in my mind that RGMUN 2019 in Istanbul will be unforgettable. We are very much looking forward to welcoming and meeting you in Istanbul in May!

Yours Sincerely,

Aleksandar Ljubomirovic
Secretary General

Welcoming Message from Project Managers

Model United Nations, as known as MUN, is a simulation of the United Nations. In this organisation, participants (students and young professionals between 18-30) take on the roles of foreign diplomats and debate contemporary on international matters. Rotary’s relation with the United Nations dates back to 1945 when 49 Rotary members acted as delegates, advisors, and consultants at the United Nations Charter Conference. Today, Rotary holds the highest consultative status possible with the United Nations as a non-governmental organization. Rotary and the United Nations have a long history of working together and sharing similar visions for a better and more peaceful world. The Rotaract Global Model United Nations 2019 will take place in Istanbul/Turkey, where the Asia meets Europe. In this unique location, together we aim to become an indispensable and strong pillar in international youth decision making organizations and together with Rotary and United Nations to level up the voice of young leaders world wide.

So, please take a seat with us! Rotary International District 2420 Rotaract Organization is looking forward to host you in Istanbul, with its 40 clubs and more than 900 Rotaractors.

Yours in Rotaract,
Rtc. Sezgi Güllü Erciyestepe & Rtc. Hande Turan
